Laos

Rugged, mountainous and interspersed with lush forests and stunning scenery, Laos established itself as a natural drawcard for the independent traveller after opening its doors to tourism in 1990. Many travellers, though, adopt a more laidback pace in Laos, one more in tune with the locals. Adventurous types head to the hills in the north, while those with energy, can indulge in trekking, rafting, caving, abseiling, kayaking and tubing.
