All documentation needed for an extension to an Ancestry Visa?

Looking at the new form for the extention to the ancestry visa, it looks like I need all the marriage and birth certificates again as I did the first time I applied. I had read you didn't need them to extend. Am I better off going back to Oz and applying for the full Ancestry Visa all over again, since I need the very same paperwork?

crikey, would you really go all the way home just to apply for Ancestry visa extension? can't your mum or someone send the certificates over? I got my ancestry visa extenstion a few years back and it was pretty straightforward - i think it's a bit more complicated now. I certainly didn' t need marriage certificates. I'm not sure that the expense of going home would really offset the inconvenience of rounding up loads of paperwork. i dunno, just my opinion.

If you do need to get documents sent from overseas, make sure that whoever posts the stuff uses registered/recorded mail. It's a bit more expensive than regular mail but gives you a lot more security (and peace of mind) and for documents it's not too much more pricey.

Absolutely no need to return home. AS the guys said above, get your folks to post all the relevant forms across, but just to be safe (as they said) go for registered post and teak photocopies as well.

Many thanks to those who replied! It looks like the paperwork is a must, unfortunately. It wasn't the trip that was daunting, though it's such a long haul, it was having to get hold of that paperwork, but it seems I can't avoid it. So I think I'm better off going for the full reapplication, since I have to make the trip anyway to get it. If anyone can advise otherwise, I'd love to know what I need to do to be able to do it here without pain.

Alas, I have no benevolent relatives who will send on the paperwork for me!

    Thanks again everyone!

    Hi Carol,

You can apply for an Ancestry extension in the UK with copies of birth/marriage certificates, however the application process will be prolonged. It is always best to apply for the extension from within the UK with the original documents.

I applied for my extension this time last year in London and provided the original documents at that time. Do you think I need to provide the originals again for my ILR applictaion. Afterall they have now granted the Visa twice based on my original ancestry documents.

On another note I have just read that the HSMP visa holders have been successful in having the extension requirement accepted for appeal. Why have we not thought to do this, afterall we have a slightly better case for being here don't we?
